- How To Prepare Xandros 4 Home Premium Edition for the installation of virtual machines (Parallels or VMWare) or various drivers (ATI, nVidia, etc.). This is a video and should not be used if you are on a dial up connection, unless you have LOTS of time.
Here is a quick synopsis of what you need to do:
Open Xandros Networks and enable the Xandros Reporitory, the Debian Unsupported Reporitory and add
deb http://www.archlug.org/apt/ xandros4 archlug
to Xandros Networks
Then install all of the programs under New Applications >> Development. Then install dcc-kernel-config-2.6.15. You now have your system fully configured to install Parallels, VMWare or any of host of other drivers.
- How To Install Parallels Workstation This is a video and should not be used if you are on a dial up connection, unless you have LOTS of time. NOTE: Before installing Parallels, you must have prepared your Xandros installation for the installation. See the appropriate video in this section to make the preparations.
- HOWTO install xvidcap on Xandros 4. Xvidcap is a screen capture program enabling you to capture videos off your X-Window desktop for illustration or documentation purposes. It is intended to be a standards-based alternative to tools like Lotus ScreenCam. To install it, add this reporitory to Xandros Networks:
deb http://www.jarre-de-the.net/computing/debian/ stable main
Then install xvidcap and libpng2. You will then need to either run the program from the command line, create a menu entry and/or create a desktop shortcut. Don't forget to disable that repository when you are finished with the install.
- Howto enable MP3 encoding on your Xandros 3 installation, right click here and "Save-Link-As". Then double click the downloaded file and let Xandros Networks install the package. Thats it!
- Howto install Flash 9 on Xandros 4. One of the Xandros forum moderators, Redrum, has built an easy to use package for Xandros 4.x, even though the installation process is easy enough for most most users. This just makes things simpler for folks who have a harder time with 'Linux things' or lets you set it up for grandma when you're 500 miles away... Its unofficial, and you assume all responsibility for reviewing and installing it... That being said, it should work well and it should uninstall itself when the next official plugin release comes out.
